Job summary

CBS² is seeking an energetic Transportation Design Engineer to support Minnesota roadway projects from our Minneapolis office. You’ll work with OpenRoads Designer to develop roadway design elements, prep plans, and support project deliverables aligned to MnDOT standards.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, plan production, quantity calculations, redlines, and collaboration with project managers and technical staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• 0-4 years of roadway design/transportation engineering experience.
• EIT certification or pursuit of licensure path (PE).
• Experience with roadway design, plan prep, quantities, and construction docs.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on roadway design for Minnesota projects using OpenRoads Designer.
• Prepare and update roadway plans, profiles, sections, and plan exhibits.
• Support plan prep activities including sheet setup, revisions, and redline incorporation.
• Develop roadway components: alignments, profiles, corridors, surfaces, grading, drainage.
• Assist with quantity calculations, cost estimating, and documentation in Excel.
• Apply MnDOT standards and project workflows to design work.
• Coordinate with PMs, team leads, engineers, and technicians to meet schedules.
• Review design work for accuracy before internal review.
• Support limited traffic-related design tasks while focusing on roadway engineering.
• Use Bluebeam, MS Office, AutoCAD to support plan review and delivery.
• Continue developing technical design judgment and MnDOT workflows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
