Job summary

SUMMIT DESIGN AND ENGINEERING SERVICES, INC. is seeking Field Inspectors to support highway and structure projects in Florida. You will perform inspections, sampling, testing, and monitor field activities while maintaining daily records and preparing monthly estimates.

A High School diploma is required. You must have strong math skills, be able to read plans, work with an iPad and MS Office, and drive a vehicle.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Strong mathematical ability in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry with ability to apply formulas.
• Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
• Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion; lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the inspection of roadways and structures and perform calculations with supervision.
• Perform materials sampling and testing; collect weigh tickets and conduct roadway tests to ensure compliance with specs.
• Monitor and perform all types of inspection work on highway projects.
• Maintain daily records and prepare monthly project estimates.
• Take field measurements and calculate contract pay quantities.
• Read plans and blueprints.
