Job summary

HBC Engineering Company is seeking a Construction Inspector - Project Administrator to support field coordination, inspection documentation, quantity verification, and day-to-day communication with contractors, clients, and project teams.

The Project Administrator manages construction-phase operations and documentation, including supervision of field personnel and coordination with contractors, utility companies, and client representatives under supervision of the Sr.

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering degree with required experience on major road or bridge projects.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Proven project and client management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare construction inspection summaries of daily activities.
  • Review drawings, specs, and contract docs for constructability.
  • Track and measure completed work quantities for payment.
  • Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate schedules, and oversee records.
  • Monitor traffic control and erosion plans for discrepancies.
  • Oversee sampling and testing of materials and work completed.
  • Analyze construction problems and consult with engineering staff.
  • Interface with project managers, contractors, and inspection staff daily.
  • Maintain project records in accordance with FDOT procedures.
  • Assist in negotiating change orders and maintain document control.
  • Prepare cost estimates and monitor project schedule and budget.

Construction Inspector - Project Administrator

HBC Engineering Company is seeking a Construction Inspector - Project Administrator to support construction engineering and inspection assignments for transportation and civil infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for field coordination, inspection documentation, quantity verification, and day-to-day communication with contractors, clients, and project teams.

Job Summary

The Project Administrator manages construction-phase operations and documentation, including supervision of field personnel and coordination with contractors, utility companies, and client representatives. The role requires sound judgment, strong recordkeeping, and the ability to identify issues early, communicate clearly, and support successful project delivery under the supervision of the Sr. Professional Engineer or Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare construction inspection summaries of daily activities
  • Review drawings, specifications, and other contract documents for constructability (plans, specs, shop drawings)
  • Review detailed records of the contractor's daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
  • Track and measure completed work quantities for payment
  • Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate schedules, and oversee work and records
  • Monitor work zone traffic control plans and identify discrepancies or potential issues
  • Monitor the erosion control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
  • Oversee and accept project sampling and testing of component materials and completed work
  • Verify dimensions and calculations of prepared and completed work
  • Analyze complex construction/design problems and consult with design engineering personnel
  • Inform the Client on project issues and provide recommendations
  • Interface proactively with project managers, contractors, and inspection staff on daily construction activities, contractor submittals, and contract plan interpretation
  • Maintain construction project records in accordance with FDOT procedures
  • Review daily inspection reports and quantity computations
  • Direct and assign specific tasks to inspectors across all phases of the project
  • Responsible for progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration
  • Assist in negotiating contractor change orders and maintaining document control for correspondence, RFIs, and submittals
  • Oversee project schedule and budget, prepare and analyze schedules, and prepare cost estimates as needed
  • Read plans and specifications, understand contractor means and methods, and solve construction problems in the field
  • Test, document, and help assure the quality of the contractor's work throughout the project
Qualifications
  • Civil Engineering degree with two years of engineering experience in the construction of major road or bridge structures, or eight years of responsible and related engineering experience with at least two years involving construction of major road or bridge structures, excluding Complex Category 2 bridge structures
  • A Master's degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of engineering experience
  • Proven project and client management skills
  • Proficient with iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, SiteManager, MAC, and/or OneDrive
  • Strong interpersonal, coordination, and communication skills
  • Ability to walk over rough and uneven terrain and stand as needed
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Ability to maintain project records, document control, schedule awareness, and budget discipline in accordance with client and company requirements
  • Preferred certifications include FDOT Advanced MOT, CTQP Final Estimates Level I and II, CTQP Quality Control Manager, CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I and II, CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I and II, CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I and II, CTQP Pile Driving, and CTQP Drilled Shaft
