Job summary

WSP USA is offering a Summer internship in our Northern Virginia Civil Team, based in Herndon, VA. The 12-week program starts May 17, 2027, and targets undergrad/grad students pursuing Civil Engineering with a strong interest in roadway/transportation projects.

The internship focuses on building practical skills through research, fieldwork, and preliminary design tasks, while providing training and mentorship from senior staff. No relocation or housing support is included.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering undergrad program with an expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Interest in Roadway/Transportation & Civil Engineering and desire to develop project skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Able to take direction from mentors and leaders to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and standard engineering tools.
• Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic Roadway and Civil Engineering principles.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
• Assist in preparing final design plans, provisions, and cost estimates.
• Help collect and maintain project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
