Job summary

Valliant Consulting Group seeks a Roads & Transportation Technician to support daily road maintenance and safety operations in New Mexico. Under supervision, you will perform routine tasks, inspect roads, patch potholes, and help keep traffic moving safely.

Responsibilities include operating maintenance equipment, logging repairs, and collaborating with a small team to protect public infrastructure. Valid NM driver's license required; Native American preference applies.

Qualifications

• Follows safety procedures and policies at all times.
• Experience coordinating traffic around active work zones.
• Ability to operate and maintain road maintenance equipment.
• Maintains records of maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance tasks on roads, such as patching potholes, sealing cracks, and applying asphalt.
• Inspects roads for damage or wear and ensures that all safety protocols are followed.
• Directs traffic around work sites.
• Operates and maintains road construction and maintenance equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Performs daily vehicle inspections to ensure safe and operable conditions.
• Reports any issues or hazards spotted during inspections.
• Transports small loads, loads, and unloads small equipment as needed.
• Installs and maintains road signage, posts, and hardware.
• Installs and cleans culverts, cattle guards, fences, and guardrails.
• Performs vegetation control, mows rights-of-way, and trims trees.
• Removes fallen trees, roadkill, and trash from roadways.
• Cleans arroyos and flooded roads.
• Performs snow removal operations, including driving pickup plow trucks with salt spreaders.
• Performs occasional mechanical and welding projects.
• Maintains complete and accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and activities.
• Performs traffic control as necessary.
• Ensures County roads are safe for travel.
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Notifies supervisor of necessary repairs or replacements.
• Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Ensures work adheres to proper safety procedures.
• Complies with all property and department policies and procedures.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of all information processed through the department including records, reports, documents, conversations, etc.
• Contributes to a team effort to achieve goals and deliver successful outcomes.
• Executes other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
