Job summary

Gila County Public Works seeks a Road Maintenance and Landfill Equipment Operator in Globe, AZ. This full-time role performs semi-skilled road construction, maintenance, landfill operations, and related safety duties, operating multiple heavy machines including loaders, backhoes, bulldozers and graders.

CDL eligibility and safety compliance are required, with training toward Class A CDL within nine months. Two years of related experience or equivalent education is expected.

• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Operates road construction and maintenance equipment including front end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, motor graders, paving machines, street sweepers, transfer trucks and compactors; maintain safety and environmental regulations in solid waste disposal.
• Grades roads, paves roads, patches and repairs roads, cleans roadways and sweeps streets; maintains ditches and culverts and ensures efficient flow of culverts; plans land and slope grades for safe equipment operation.
• Coordinates Department of Corrections inmate work detail.
• Performs manual labor assignments including fire control, hazardous materials cleanup, guardrail and foliage maintenance and debris removal; assists landfill customers to unload refuse safely and separates recyclable products at the landfill.
• Follows safety regulations on all work zones and flagging sites; performs emergency road services in relation to fires, floods and roadway inspection; hauls materials and transports vehicles to jobsites; inspects and maintains trucks and heavy equipment; performs traffic control and may assist in snow removal.
