Job summary

Gila County in Arizona seeks a semi-skilled Road Construction and Maintenance worker to operate a variety of equipment and perform roadside and landfill tasks within the Roads Division or Recycling & Landfill Division. The role involves grading, paving, ditch work, and supporting traffic control to ensure safe, efficient road operations.

Responsibilities include serving as a hands-on operator of heavy machinery, assisting with emergency road services, and coordinating community-facing tasks

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in road construction and maintenance and operation of related equipment; or two years’ experience in landfill operations; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates road construction and maintenance equipment including front end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, motor graders, paving machines, street sweepers, transfer trucks and compactors, and landfill equipment; ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Grades roads, paves roads, replaces asphalt, patches and repairs roads, cleans roadways and sweeps streets; maintains ditches and culverts and plans land and slope grades for safe equipment operation.
• Coordinates inmate work detail for Department of Corrections.
• Performs manual labor tasks including fire control, hazardous materials cleanup, debris removal, and assists landfill customers with unloading refuse; separates recyclable materials.
• Follows safety regulations on work zones and flagging sites; performs landfill liner leakage testing and waste handling activities; provides emergency road services as needed.
