Job summary

Gila County is seeking a semi-skilled Roads and Landfill Equipment Operator to perform construction, repair and maintenance of county roads, right-of-ways and related facilities, and to operate a variety of heavy equipment in accordance with safety regulations. You may be assigned to the Roads Division or the Recycling & Landfill Division as needed.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and CDL training within nine months; a probationary period and drug

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License; CDL training/testing to be completed within required timeframes.
• Drug and alcohol testing is required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Operate front end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, graders, paving machines and other heavy equipment safely.
• Grade, pave and repair roads; maintain ditches and culverts for proper drainage.
• Coordinate inmate work details and assist landfill operations.
• Perform traffic control, set up signs and flag traffic.
• Inspect and perform routine checks on trucks and equipment; report needed repairs.
• May provide emergency road services in snow, floods, or fires.
