Job summary

Via in Benton Harbor, MI is seeking a Road Supervisor to train and oversee paratransit operators, respond to emergencies, and ensure safe, reliable service in the local area.

You will conduct ride-alongs, coach drivers on performance, safety procedures, and best practices, and coordinate on-site training programs. This role requires a valid license, a clean record, and ability to pass screenings; starting pay is $23.50 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must have previous supervisory or management experience.
• Capable of training paratransit operators.
• Hold a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Eligible to interview at Via’s Benton Harbor offices and pass background checks.
• Must be at least 25 years old.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-the-road supervision with ride-alongs to ensure driver performance meets safety standards.
• Monitor operator interactions and safety procedures; provide constructive feedback.
• Develop and deliver training for new, remedial, and refresher driver content.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for operational issues and implement timely solutions.
• Operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles safely to transport elderly and disabled passengers.
• Assist with service recoveries during disruptions and stranded riders.

As a Road Supervisor at Via, you will train operators, oversee the performance of operators, respond to emergencies, and manage the delivery of paratransit service in the Benton Harbor area.

What You’ll Do:

• Conduct on-the-road supervision, including regular ride-alongs and shadowing, to ensure driver performance meets service and safety standards.
• Monitor and assess operator interactions and adherence to safety procedures, offering constructive feedback as necessary.
• Develop and deliver training programs for new drivers, including initial, remedial, and refresher content.
• Provide hands‑on training in best practices, safety protocols, and service standards to align with service expectations
• Conduct proper post‑accident and post‑incident procedures including acting as the Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DOT purposes.
• Act as the primary point of contact for immediate operational issues, implementing solutions to resolve challenges promptly.
• Operate accessible vehicles safely and courteously to transport elderly and disabled passengers, modeling high customer service standards.
• Service trips as necessary, especially in the case of stranded riders, breakdowns, or other service disruptions.

Who You Are:

• Possess sound knowledge of the city and an excellent driving record.
• Possess previous supervisory or management experience.
• Able and excited to train paratransit operators.
• Available to be scheduled as per the evolving needs of the role during all service hours and days.
• Able to operate a wheelchair‑accessible vehicle within standard safety guidelines to ensure public safety
• Must be able to safely push and maneuver more than 400 pounds of weight, such as in assisting passengers in wheelchairs or handling heavy equipment
• Must be comfortable bending down on one knee for extended periods of time to secure wheelchairs and other mobility aids
• Patient, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities
• Able to deal effectively and courteously with all customers and the public
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Pass a drug screening, motor vehicle check, physical exam, and criminal background check.
• At least 25 years old.
• Able to interview at Via’s offices in the Benton Harbor area
