Job summary

The City of Greensboro, NC is seeking a Mechanic for Signs & Markings to fabricate, install, maintain, and repair traffic signs and pavement markings across the city. The role requires operating various equipment, setting up work zones, and performing after-hours emergency responses as needed.

Candidates should have 1–3 years of relevant experience with traffic signs and markings (or 5–7 years without a diploma) and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1–3 years of experience in traffic signs and markings or a similar industry.
• No diploma with 5–7 years of experience in traffic signs and markings or a similar industry.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, install, modify, maintain, upgrade, and repair traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and test instruments used on the job.
• Set up work zones, lane closures, and flagging operations in compliance with standards.
• Maintain accurate records and perform after‑hours emergency response duties as required.
• Work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions; perform heavy lifting up to 100 lbs.
