Job summary

Gila County Community College is seeking a Roads Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled work on road construction and maintenance projects and to operate heavy equipment in compliance with safety regulations. The role includes working in either the Roads Division or the Recycling & Landfill Division on a temporary basis, with potential emergency road service duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of road construction/maintenance equipment experience or two years in landfill operations or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License; CDL testing within 3 months; Class A CDL within 9 months.

Responsibilities

• Operates road construction and maintenance equipment safely and in accordance with regulations.
• Grades and patches roads; maintains ditches, culverts and roadways; oversees landfill operations.
• Coordinates inmate work detail for Department of Corrections.
• Perform manual labor tasks including fire control, cleanup of hazardous materials, and debris removal.
• Follows safety regulations at work zones and landfill; conducts traffic control with signs and flagging.
• Hauls materials and transports vehicles/equipment to worksites; inspects and maintains equipment.
• Performs emergency road services for snow, floods, fires; assists landfill customers with unloading.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
