Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Road Foreman to lead locomotive engineers, oversee train operations, and enforce safety and regulatory compliance across a defined territory.

The role emphasizes certification management, budgeting, and collaboration with Road Trainmasters to optimize on-time performance and service quality, with a tiered placement based on skills and experience. Onsite work arrangement is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in transportation, business, or related field.
• 7+ years of applicable experience in train operations or supervision is preferred.
• Strong leadership, budget and regulatory compliance skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage locomotive engineers including hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
• Oversee train operations and crew performance to ensure safe, on-time service and improvements.
• Ensure regulatory and policy compliance with operating rules and labor agreements.
• Administer engineer certification, training, and reporting activities.
• Enforce safety initiatives and maintain employee records and efficiency testing.
• Prepare reports and coordinate with managers on territory operations and budgets.
