Job summary

Cameron County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform maintenance, repair, and construction of road and drainage infrastructure. You will operate and maintain a range of road construction equipment and assist with safety inspections and material estimates.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with four years of related experience and a Texas Class B CDL with tank/air brakes; knowledge of safety, weather responses, and equipment maintenance is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least four years of road construction/equipment experience.
• Valid Texas Class B CDL with tank and air brakes endorsement; hazardous materials endorsement preferred.
• Ability to work on-call and during severe weather events.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains road construction equipment (graders, pavers, rollers, loaders) to build/maintain streets.
• Assesses safety risks and checks damaged equipment daily.
• Inspects materials and performs minor repairs and patching.
• Sets ground elevations using survey equipment.
• Transports materials and heavy equipment; maintains tools and follows safety protocols.
• On-call to assist the community during severe weather events.
