Job summary

Harvey County in Newton, KS is hiring a Road and Bridge Technician to perform highway construction and maintenance, including winter operations, to keep roadways safe and in good repair.

The position requires an Associate’s degree with two years of maintenance or road construction experience, a valid Class A CDL, and completion of safety trainings as required by the County. You will operate heavy equipment, inspect projects, and maintain records in a full-time, on-site role.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college and two years of maintenance or road construction experience.
• Must possess a valid Class A CDL.
• Completion of OSHA 10-hr or 30-hr safety training, Work Zone Safety Training, MSHA, confined space, hazmat, forklift certification, first aid, and CPR within timeframe specified by the County.

Responsibilities

• Performs general highway maintenance and related activities as assigned, including snow and ice removal, patching holes, asphalt surface repairs, sign repairs, clearing brush, flagging traffic, and more.
• Operates machines to spread, smooth, level, or reinforce paving materials and assists with grading and excavation tasks.
• Loads, delivers, and unloads materials; conducts daily inspection and service to equipment; maintains records of inspection and service.
• Responds to weather events and emergencies, including snow, ice, and road closures, following safety protocols.
