Job summary

County of Volusia is seeking an Equipment Operator II for the Road & Bridge Division. The role involves operating medium and heavy equipment for road maintenance and drainage tasks, with daily safety inspections of equipment.

A valid Florida CDL Class B is required at hire and must be maintained thereafter. Work may involve operating trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, skid steers, and other equipment, plus performing routine service and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and inspections of medium/heavy equipment.
• Valid Florida CDL Class B required at hire and maintained thereafter.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and a CDL Class B within 30 days of hire.
• Two years' experience in operation of moderately medium-sized construction and automotive equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates 10-wheel trucks and heavy equipment such as loader, backhoe, skid steer.
• May apply oils, asphalt, or tar to highway surfaces and operate rollers.
• Perform daily safety inspections prior to and after use and routine maintenance.
