Job summary

County of Volusia seeks an Equipment Operator I for the Road & Bridge division, located across Volusia County. You will perform semi-skilled operation of less complex equipment to maintain roads and drainage, including daily safety checks and routine maintenance.

Requirements include a Florida driver’s license, a CDL Class B within six months, and the ability to relocate as needed. The role entails responding to emergencies and following all safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Completion of the eighth (8th) grade and one (1) year of experience in operation and routine maintenance of light to medium trucks or similar equipment.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain thereafter.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Must possess a valid Florida CDL Class B within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
• Responds to emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Operates mowers and tractors with mowing attachments.
• Operates commercial trucks (less than 10 wheels) including dump, flatbed, and water wagon trucks.
• Drives fuel truck to various parts of the county and services equipment with fuel.
• May operate small gasoline-powered machinery and hand tools.
• Sets signs and barricades.
• Participates in laboring work of the crew.
• Performs daily safety inspections of equipment before/after use.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
