Volusia County Schools is looking for a skilled equipment operator to support a range of transportation and facilities tasks. The role emphasizes safety for students and staff while operating heavy machinery and performing maintenance tasks.

Ideal candidates hold a CDL-B with air brake endorsement, have 3+ years of equipment experience, and are prepared to work at multiple sites with varying hours. Training and cross‑training opportunities are provided within the division.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred; relevant experience is a plus.
• Current Temporary CDL-B with air brake endorsement and road test clearance.
• Ability to read road maps and familiarize with Volusia County routes.
• Willingness to attend on‑the‑job training and cross‑training sessions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate receipt and documentation of tasks and materials.
• Maintain safety for all students and staff during operations.
• Operate heavy-duty equipment including forklift, backhoe, and bucket truck.
• Inspect vehicles/equipment daily following DOT and OSHA rules.
• Load/unload vehicles; assist in maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Maintain clean work areas and proper inventory controls.
• Document reports and work orders; communicate with supervisors.
• Support cross-training and perform other duties as assigned.
