Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an engineer to manage complex road and bridge construction projects on primary and secondary routes. You will coordinate with interdepartmental and external entities, train and evaluate staff, and resolve issues raised by the public.

You will perform field inspections, prepare reports, obtain construction certifications, collect samples, maintain equipment, and handle project closeout tasks including as-built plans, time sheets, and surveys.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
• One year of engineering or construction management work experience.
• Equivalent acceptable qualifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex, intermediate, and small road and bridge construction projects on primary and secondary routes.
• Coordinate work with interdepartmental and outside entities, train and evaluate subordinate personnel performance.
• Meet and discuss issues and resolve complaints from the general public.
• Ensure all work complies with South Carolina Department of Transportation rules, regulations, and policies.
• Perform inspection duties in all fields and produce required reports in a timely manner.
• Obtain construction certification in all specialized fields and schedule material samples and certifications.
• Maintain inspection and testing equipment, complete daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports.
• Schedule and perform construction verification surveys and preconstruction layout activities.
• Collect data, produce accurate reports, and perform time-sensitive duties on all projects.
• Perform project closeout duties, including submittal of forms and as-built plans within required timeframe.
