Job summary

Quincy Medical Group is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a full-time role in Surgery & GI. You will perform preoperative assessments, educate patients, manage IV access, and monitor recovery before discharge, collaborating with surgeons and anesthesia teams to ensure safe, efficient care.

The role emphasizes patient education, critical thinking, and strong communication in a fast-paced outpatient setting, with a focus on safety and quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Current Illinois RN license required.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred or required within hire timeframe.
  • Experience in surgery, GI, PACU, pre/post-op, critical care or procedural nursing preferred.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced procedural environment.
  • Experience with IV therapy and patient monitoring preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preoperative and pre-procedure patient assessments, including review of medical history, medications, laboratory results, and procedure readiness.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and GI procedures by providing education, reviewing instructions, and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Initiate and manage IV access and administer medications within scope of practice and organizational policies.
  • Monitor patients before and after procedures, assessing vital signs, pain levels, recovery progress, and overall patient status.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and communicate concerns to providers and anesthesia staff.
  • Provide post-procedure recovery care and discharge education to patients and families.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure safe and efficient patient flow.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and discharge instructions within the electronic medical record.
  • Support infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Maintain equipment readiness and assist with department quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Surgery & GI operations.

About the Role:

As a Registered Nurse in Surgery & GI at Quincy Medical Group, you will play a vital role in preparing patients for procedures and providing recovery care following surgical and gastrointestinal procedures. Working closely with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team, you will ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout their procedural experience. This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys patient education, assessment, critical thinking, and building rapport with patients during an important part of their healthcare journey. You will work in a fast-paced procedural environment focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and exceptional service.

Schedule & Work Environment

Full-time position, Monday-Friday, daytime hours. Schedule may vary based on procedural volume and departmental needs. No routine weekends, holidays, or overnight shifts. Fast-paced outpatient surgery and GI environment. Collaborative team setting focused on delivering high-quality procedural care and positive patient outcomes.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $27.56 - $41.43 per hour, with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
