Scheduled Hours & Shift

36 scheduled weekly hours. Work shift: 7 pm–7 am.

Summary of the Job

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities for the Pediatric Emergency Department patient. Activities include, but are not limited to, use of the nursing process in the utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient. Registered Nurses also supervise the activities of Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants. The RN works within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follows hospital policies and procedures and complies with hospital and nursing standards. The RN supports the goals and objectives of the department and the hospital. Nursing staff within Children’s Services areas are required to float to Pediatric Acute Unit as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program.
  • Current LA RN licensure.
  • BLS required upon hire; PALS, NRP, and ALS required within 90 days of hire. Certifications may be earned through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) program such as Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross. ILCOR courses must include a manikin check‑off.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in an acute Pediatric Emergency Department.
Physical Demands

Must possess good physical health. Standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time; lifting at least 50 pounds; able to work with moderate level of noise.
