Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Temporary GN permit or RN license from the State of Texas prior to beginning employment required.
• ACLS certification within three (3) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department).
• PALS certification within six (6) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department).
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Nights and/or weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
• Assesses patients’ needs for nursing care and other services.
• Collaborates with physicians, other services, patients and families to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
• Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies and actively participates in data collection for current studies.
• Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
• Ensures integration of safety and quality standards into practice and delivery of team care.
• Documents care according to established standards.
• Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.
• Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
• Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.
• Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team.
• Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
• Effectively and consistently functions in related roles as required, e.g., charge nurse, preceptor or protocol manager.
• Other duties as assigned.
