Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a dedicated RN for the 6 West Post-Operative Bariatric unit. This 24-bed unit handles post-operative weight loss surgery patients, including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, with 7a–7p or 7p–7a shifts on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities include delivering direct nursing care, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and managing discharge planning under established policies. UAB St.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an RN in Alabama.
• Diploma in nursing and professional licensure at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with unit policies and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans and communicate patient status.
• Coordinate care as primary multidisciplinary team lead for well-coordinated patient care.
• Coordinate discharge planning needs with healthcare team.

6 West, Post-Operative Bariatric, is a 24-bed unit that focuses on patients who are post-operative weight loss surgery. The most common procedures that are performed on the patients are a Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy.

What You Will Do

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
