Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the 5 West Medical/Surgical unit on the Night Shift (7p–7a) at UAB St. Vincent's East. The 19-bed unit handles diverse medical/surgical cases.

You will provide direct nursing care, implement care plans, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and assist with discharge planning to ensure seamless patient transitions. Required are Alabama RN license, BLS within 30 days, and a Diploma in Nursing; the hospital offers generous PTO, parental leave,

Position Overview

• Department: 5West Med Surg
• Schedule: Full Time Nights, 7p to 7a
• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East

5 West, Medical/Surgical is a 19-bed unit that cares for a variety of general medical/surgical patients. Diagnoses on 5W vary from pneumonia and COPD to CHF and diabetes. Common surgical procedures for 5 West include EGDs, lithotripsy, PEG tube placement, and cholecystectomies.

What You Will Do

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
