Job summary

UAB Medicine is hiring an Operating Room/Perioperative Nurse to deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The role includes scrubbing for procedures, circulating duties, and direct assistance to surgeons, including patient positioning and wound exposure. Strong OR experience preferred; diploma from an accredited nursing program with active licensure is required.

Rotating holidays and on-call duties may apply. Work location is UAB St.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire/transfer.
• Nursing licensure as a Registered Nurse required before hire/transfer.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgery or invasive procedures.
• Perform scrub functions: instrument and supply handling for procedures.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor and communicate patient condition; manage nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
• Directly assist the operating physician with hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments/equipment for use.

Job Description

OR experience strongly preferred

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
