Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an RN - Registered Nurse for the NICU at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham with multiple shifts. The NICU is a Level III unit providing specialized care for premature and fragile neonates.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, care plan implementation, and coordination across disciplines. Licensure in Alabama and required certifications must be maintained; BLS/ACLS/PALS are required within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date required.
• ACLS obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date required.
• PALS obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date required.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an RN by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans; monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with healthcare team.

The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit ( NICU ) at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham is a 32-bed open bay unit where we provide advanced treatment for the smallest and most vulnerable patients with a range of infant complications , including prematurity, respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and birth injuries . With a dedicated team of board-certified neonatologists and experienced neonatal nurse practitioners, we work closely with the UAB Women & Infants Center and Children’s of Alabama to deliver expert care. Nurses on this unit get a rewarding experience where they can offer empathy, parental education, and support in a compassionate environment for neonatal care.
