POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care provided to a group of patients. This nurse leads the nursing team members in care as directed by the attending physician and in collaboration with other healthcare providers, following the philosophy and policies of ProMedica Acute Care Hospitals. Actively participates in creating an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction. Ensures decisions are based on patient and family-centered care philosophy, utilizing evidence-based practices, and focusing on safety, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.

Scope of Service

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to individuals and groups requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from biological, physical, behavioral, social, spiritual/cultural, and nursing sciences. The RN functions within the full scope of nursing practice as defined by the Board of Nursing of their state and complies with hospital accrediting bodies.

  1. Patient & Family Centered Care
  • Recognize the patient or designee as the source of control and full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient preferences, values, and needs.
  • Elicit and communicate patient values, preferences, and expressed needs.
  • Provide patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for diversity, engaging patients or surrogates in active partnerships that promote health, safety, well-being, and self-care management.
  • Address patient/family education needs considering patient comprehension and learning styles from entry through discharge.
  • Navigate and collaborate with patient, family, and healthcare team for appropriate transitions.
  • Evaluate patient responses and intervene to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Evidence-Based Practice
    • Integrate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences for optimal healthcare delivery.
    • Base individualized care plans on patient values, clinical expertise, and evidence.
  • Nursing Practice
    • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for each patient.
    • Analyze and prioritize problems, making sound judgments based on critical thinking.
  • Safety and Quality Improvement
    • Enhance safety and quality by minimizing harm risks.
    • Administer medications and execute regimens as authorized.
    • Use quality measures and data to understand performance.
    • Apply technology and standardized practices supporting safety and quality.
    • Identify strategies to reduce harm.
    • Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based projects, or research.
    • Promote error prevention techniques and report safety concerns.
  • Informatics & Technology
    • Promote technology use for communication, information management, error mitigation, and decision support.
    • Document in the electronic health record accurately and timely.
    • Respond to clinical decision supports and alerts appropriately.
    • Protect the integrity and privacy of healthcare records.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team to foster respect and shared decision-making.
    • Coordinate the patient's care plan through team interactions.
    • Act with integrity, respect diversity, and function within scope of practice.
    • Delegate appropriately and escalate concerns through proper channels.
  • Leadership & System-Based Practice
    • Influence team behavior to facilitate goal achievement.
    • Maintain current knowledge of nursing scope of practice.
    • Use leadership skills to promote systems thinking and communication.
    • Participate in healthcare teams to improve care and satisfaction.
    • Follow nursing process for practice accountability, including supervising support staff.

  • Job Requirements
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Ohio RN must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education during licensure, including at least 1 hour related to Ohio nurse practice code.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Personal Protective Equipment: Use standard precautions and PPE; safe patient handling equipment.

    Physical Demands: Able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature changes, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids. Able to move about hospital, stand for long periods, lift/move patients or equipment, and perform physical activities including sitting, stairs, kneeling.
