The role of the RN includes leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses practice within a framework that emphasizes autonomy and accountability, utilizing evidence and data to support patient-centered practice.

Responsibilities

1. Standards of Practice: Guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN utilizes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide competent nursing care.
2. Standards of Professional Performance: The RN demonstrates professional behavior in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, and resource utilization. They are accountable for their actions and practice ethically and responsibly.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required within one month of hire.

Experience: All RNs encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program. 1 year of acute care experience required. Pediatric and Heme Onc/BMT experience preferred.

Licensure: Licensed and registered in Connecticut. Specialty certification encouraged.

Physical Demands

Prolonged standing and walking; ability to assist with patient lifting; exposure to infectious diseases and emotional stress.
