Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Martin South is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide direct nursing care for orthopaedic patients from adolescence to elderly. You will implement care plans, monitor patient conditions, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced unit.

Position includes on-call requirements and opportunities to develop skills within a family-oriented hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN)
• Current state RN licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• One year of RN experience in a critical care area or Emergency Department

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in the PACU for orthopaedic patients from adolescent to geriatric
• Implement, monitor, and revise patient care plans as needed
• Monitor, record, and communicate patients' conditions to the team
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments
• Carry out physician and nursing orders
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge needs and education for patients and families

A Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Cleveland Clinic Martin South provides direct patient care to Orthopaedic pre- and post-operative patients, from adolescent to geriatric, following established standards, department guidelines and hospital policies and procedures. Our unit collaborates with many other departments and units within the hospital to provide world-class care for each patient. Nursing caregivers within our PACU are skilled in several subspecialty practice areas and – as a very diverse unit – a variety of practice environments and skill sets are represented. Additionally, you will be able to develop your nursing skills with each interaction, which can lead to growth within the unit or other areas of the hospital.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 8:30PM, with on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
• Educate patients and their families.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• *Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS American Red Cross certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment based on the department service level RN is hired into
• One year of current RN experience in a critical care area or Emergency Department

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
