Atlas MedStaff is looking for an experienced RN to join a newly opening cardiac-focused stepdown/critical care unit in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This role involves managing complex cardiac cases, including post-surgical patients, and performing various advanced therapies.

Shifts are 12 hours overnight for a duration of 13 weeks, with a focus on critical cardiac care. Candidates should have experience with Swan-Ganz and Impella; training for further skills will be provided. This position offers real responsibility from day one.

Qualifications

Join a newly opening cardiac-focused stepdown/critical care unit in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, transitioning from high‑acuity PCU to ICU. This travel healthcare contract is designed for an experienced RN who enjoys fast, complex cases and can confidently manage advanced cardiac therapies.

In this role, you’ll care for a heavy cardiac patient mix including CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post‑cath patients, dysrhythmias/arrhythmias, post‑pacemaker/ablations, external/temporary pacers, post‑CABG/open hearts, heart transplants, and post‑vascular surgeries such as AAA/fem‑pops with EVARs and thoracic outlets (experience not required). You’ll also perform required wound care and dressing changes for post‑surgical patients, interpret EKGs, support post‑arrest care, assist with cardioversions/defibrillation, manage and pull sheaths, and use therapies such as BiPAP/CPAP/high‑flow, chest tubes, and trachs (vented patients once transitioned to ICU).

Experience with Swan‑Ganz and Impella is required. Once the unit transitions to ICU, you’ll be expected to care for fresh open hearts; LVAD and post‑cardiac transplant experience is highly preferred (training available). No ECMO is used, and IABP will be accepted once transitioned. The unit is supported by a CNA, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, PICC team, and a charge nurse team that does not take patients.
