PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon, hosts a 12-month Nurse Residency Program for new graduates. The program develops clinical skills, leadership, and confidence through an evidence-based curriculum and a collaborative care approach.

Qualified candidates are recent RN graduates or new-licensees with BLS and an Oregon RN license, ready to work 36 hours weekly across multiple units, with a 2-year commitment.

Qualifications

  • Active Oregon RN license by date of hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by date of hire.
  • Recent RN graduate (within 12 months) or RN licensed <12 months with <6 months Acute Care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Promote professional nursing care in compliance with practice standards.
  • Provide direct patient care and document in the health care record.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to plan and deliver care.
  • Participate in program activities and complete 12-month residency requirements.

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart is now accepting applications for the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation Nurse Residency Program at Sacred Heart Medical Center Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon. These full time, variable shift positions are an exceptional opportunity for new graduate nurses to join a program designed to foster technical expertise, compassionate care and professional growth.

Our 12-month transition-to-practice program offers interactive, evidence-based curriculum that builds clinical skills, leadership and confidence in the professional nurse role. The program reflects the Mission, Vision and Values of PeaceHealth ensuring excellence in patient outcomes and community care.

Available Units:

  • Medical/Surgical Units (Competency Development Pool), Medical/Ortho, Surgical, Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology (OHVI4 and OHVI5), Rehab & Observation
  • Specialty Units: NICU, Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, NTICU, OR & Behavioral Health.

What you bring:

  • Recent RN graduate (within 12 month) or a RN licensed less than 12 months with less than 6 months of Acute Care experience
  • Active Oregon RN license by date of hire
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by date of hire.
  • Able to participate in all program activities throughout the 12-month residency period
  • Ability to work a minimum of 36 hours/week, variable shifts and shift lengths and rotate per union standards
  • Commitment to a 12-month program and willingness to sign a 2-year agreement

Additional details:

  • Start dates are between October 5th - January 18th 2027 and determined by several factors including: NCLEX (one retest attempt allowed), Licensing, relocation and department needs.
  • Position is union-represented, multiple openings available

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $50.78 – $79.78 The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.

Essential Functions
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  • Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  • Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Experience
  • Registered Nurse
  • Upon Hire Basic Life Support
Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures
  • Basic computer skills
Working Conditions
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
