Job summary

Mercy Springfield is seeking registered nurses for the Mother-Baby Unit on a 12-hour shift schedule (0630-1900 and 1830-0700), with alternating weekends and holidays. The unit cares for postpartum mothers and newborns, including late preterm to term.

A year-long Nurse Residency Program is available for new grads and select experienced nurses. Sign-on bonuses up to $20,000 for night shifts, plus education assistance and relocation incentives.

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Nurse Residency Available: Mercy Springfield offers a year-long Nurse Residency Program tailored to the specialty area in which each nurse is hired. All graduate nurses participate in the program, along with select experienced nurses based on their individual experience and professional development needs.

The Mother-Baby Unit is a 50-bed unit, all privates located on the 5th floor of Mercy Hospital. The Mother-Baby unit serves mothers and their stable newborns, late preterm to term using a specially trained health-care team, as well as stable antepartum patients needing short to long term hospitalization. The major admitting diagnosis’ include postpartum mothers experiencing vaginal deliveries and postoperative cesarean sections and their newborns, as well as pregnancy diagnoses’ such as PIH, PROM, Gestational diabetes, and Placenta Previa. The service is provided 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The Mother-Baby Unit is a specialized area of expertise that require astute assessment skills, development of critical thinking while understanding the implications of growth and development on physiologic and patho-physiologic process. All staff work 12-hour shifts, 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700, which includes alternating weekend shifts and holiday shifts.
