Corewell Health's 5 North orthopedic unit in Dearborn Hospital offers 28 beds and around-the-clock interdisciplinary care for adults with musculoskeletal issues who may need surgery. The team supports hip and knee replacement pathways with collaboration across trauma, therapy, nursing, and case management.
The RN uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and discharge, partnering with patients and families, teaching them and documenting education in the health record.
5 North is a twenty-eight-bed orthopedic unit which focuses on the adult patient with musculoskeletal problems that may potentially need surgical intervention. Collaborative 24-hour patient care is provided within an effective interdisciplinary care team including Trauma mid-level providers, physical and occupational therapists, nursing assistants and case managers. The unit has the capability of 4 telemetry beds. The unit is Joint Commission certified for hip and knee replacement surgery.

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
