Job summary

Northwest Health - Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, IN is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for full-time night shifts in the Med Surg Unit. The RN provides patient-centered care using the nursing process, coordinates with physicians and the care team, and delivers high-quality care during 12-hour night shifts from 7p to 7a.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state or compact state.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
• ACLS, PALS and NRP certifications preferred.
• 0–2 years clinical nursing experience or student rotations in acute care.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and provides patient-centered care per nursing process and unit policies.
• Performs thorough patient assessments and documents findings.
• Administers prescribed medications and monitors for side effects.
• Assists physicians during procedures within competency and scope.
• Develops and evaluates individualized care plans with the care team.
• Responds to emergencies and participates in CPR/code team activities.
• Educates patients and families on conditions, treatment, and discharge plans.
• Adheres to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
• Operates and monitors medical equipment as needed.
• Documents care and education thoroughly in the medical record.
• Engages in professional development to maintain clinical competency.
• Participates in performance improvement and audits.
