Description:The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.This includes care during emergency situations and circulating for C-sections.The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel according to their scope of practice.Essential functions include performing physical and psychosocial assessments of patients while considering age and cultural differences.The nurse initiates multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with healthcare team members.The role requires demonstrating appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies, including crash C-sections and precipitous deliveries.Competence in assessing fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, and vaginal bleeding is also required.The nurse effectively manages pain control for laboring patients and supports alternative pain control methods when appropriate.Assisting with epidural catheter placement and monitoring fetal and maternal status during and after medication administration is a part of the duties.Education of patients and families during all stages of the perinatal and postpartum period is essential, using methods appropriate to the patient's condition and learning readiness.The position requires completing accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided and evaluations of patients' responses to treatments.Consistent performance of necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks is expected.Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.This position requires all associates to receive all necessary vaccinations as a condition of employment.Medical and religious exemptions may apply.
