The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care, including both direct and indirect nursing activities. This role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, educating patients and families, and ensuring quality and safe care is administered based on established nursing standards. Essential skills include critical thinking, effective communication, and proficiency in using medical equipment and computer systems to record and manage patient information.
The Registered Nurse in the ICU provides direct and indirect patient care. He/she applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.
Essential Functions:
The ability and willingness to follow established Standards of Performance. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work with multiple computer systems. Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English. Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided.

Minimum Education:
Active Tennessee RN license or Compact State RN license with the intent to obtain a Tennessee RN license within 30 days of hire.

Certifications:
BLS current or within 90 days of hire date.
ACLS current or within 90 days of hire date.
PALS current or within 90 days of hire date.
HWC within 6 months of hire date.
