Role Overview

Responsible for delivering and coordinating nursing care for patients within a multidisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care. Provides compassionate, patient-centered care while supporting patients and families through emotional challenges and crises. Prioritizes patient safety and strives for optimal care outcomes through evidence-based practice. Educates and advocates for patients and their families, empowering them with knowledge and resources for treatment and self-care. Demonstrates professionalism and upholds the MLH Mission, Vision, and Values, serving as a role model for excellence in nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments to determine appropriate interventions and develop individualized care plans.
  2. Provide patient and family education on care plans, medications, and self-care strategies.
  3. Develop, implement, and adjust personalized patient care plans based on ongoing assessments.
  4. Administer medications safely, following best practices.
  5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Nursing - RN
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing - RN

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months RN experience
  • Preferred: Over 1 year in a similar clinical setting

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of patient care, including assessment and nursing process.
  • Strong knowledge of Nurse Practice Act and RN scope of practice.
  • Critical thinking skills for processing complex clinical information.
  • Effective delegation and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology (e.g., EHR, barcode scanning).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse license for Tennessee
  • Preferred: Certification in clinical specialty

Supervision

  • The RN directs and delegates all patient care activities on nursing units.

Physical Demands

  • Activities include climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Physical requirements: medium work — exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Requires visual acuity for patient assessment and data analysis.
  • Frequent contact with patients and exposure to body fluids and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergencies.
