Job summary

Novant Health Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy, NC seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the ICU on night shift. This 13-week contract features 12-hour nights (18:45–07:15) with potential 36 hours and 12 weekend shifts per contract. The unit uses continuous cardiac monitoring and advanced technologies to care for critically ill patients.

Required: NC or compact RN license, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, Stroke Life Support, and at least 2 years ICU experience; Meditech experience preferred.

Qualifications

• ACLS certification required.

• NIHSS and Stroke Life Support certifications required.
• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience.
• Prior Meditech experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret vital signs and clinical parameters of critically ill patients.
• Perform complex procedures and assist with essential medical interventions.
• Administer medications including titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips.
• Provide care for ventilated patients and manage high flow nasal cannula.
• Conduct assessments including urine output monitoring and EKG/ECG interpretation.
• Implement infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions.
• Maintain accurate patient records utilizing the Meditech documentation system.

Job Description

This Registered Nurse position in the Intensive Care Unit serves a diverse patient population including those with DKA, active GI bleeds, strokes, post-stroke respiratory failure, pneumonia from complicated surgical cases, chronic heart failure, and possibly acute kidney injury. The unit features continuous cardiac monitoring and advanced patient care technologies.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret vital signs and clinical parameters of critically ill patients.
• Perform complex procedures and assist with essential medical interventions.
• Administer medications including titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips.
• Provide care for ventilated patients and manage high flow nasal cannula.
• Conduct assessments including urine output monitoring and EKG/ECG interpretation.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an intensive care unit.
• No required charge experience; however, familiarity with patient ratios (1:3) is necessary.
• Must have prior Meditech experience.

Certifications/Licensure

• BLS certification required.
• NIHSS and Stroke Life Support certifications are required.
