Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Nurse Services Supervisor 2 to manage inpatient nursing operations on rotating shifts at East Campus Medical Center. The role includes staffing oversight, performance appraisals, and acting as on-site administrator during off hours.

The incumbent will hire and train staff, ensure regulatory and licensure standards, and lead quality and safety initiatives while collaborating with nursing leadership across locations.

Qualifications

• BSN and CA RN license required.
• Current BART/ART or BLS/CPR and/or ACLS with plan to obtain AART within 6 months.
• 5+ years of RN experience, incl. 3+ years in acute care.
• Recent supervisory/management experience required.
• Proven hospital management skills.
• Knowledge to manage disasters and problem solve with critical thinking.
• Familiarity with The Joint Commission accreditation regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; empathy for staff and patients.
• Ability to communicate with all levels including physicians and external parties.

Responsibilities

• Oversee nursing activities on shift; serve as administrative resource.
• Collaborate with nurse managers and charge nurses on staffing.
• Onsite admin during off hours.
• Hire, screen, interview; conduct annual evaluations.
• Train and assign work; make merit increase recommendations.
• Perform disciplinary action in consultation with HR.
• Lead quality of care activities and safety programs.
• Ensure licensure and mandated competencies are current.
• Represent department in grievances/arbitration.
• Support data collection and customer service improvements.
• Communicate effectively across all staff levels.
