Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is looking for a Staff Nurse for the Float Pool, working full-time or part-time nights. Nurses will gain experience across most inpatient units, excluding pediatrics and OR.

Responsibilities include coordinating nursing care and working with diverse patient populations. Required qualifications include an ADN or Nursing Diploma, RN license in Nebraska, and BLS certification. Benefits include a new tier pay structure and bonuses.

Job description

Position Overview

Staff Nurse – Float Pool

Shift: Nights. Full time or part time.

Nurses in the float pool will spend time on most inpatient units in the hospital, except for pediatrics, PICU, mother/baby, NICU, and OR. They gain varied experiences working with all patient populations and may take advantage of an 18‑month fellow position for new graduates that float to five med‑surg units.

Responsibilities
  • Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other health care providers to meet the holistic care needs of a designated group of patients.
  • Work in environments ranging from long‑term care to emergent, critical, acute, interventional, or procedural driven settings.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required.
  • Effective communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated initiative, teamwork and flexibility.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, must be from AHA‑endorsed program.
  • Required PALS and/or ACLS based on department.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience.
  • Experience in cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical‑surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, quality assurance or perioperative specialty areas.
  • Bachelor’s (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Completed courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care, or other specialty training.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and email applications.
  • Proficient with departmental equipment and systems such as patient care equipment, telecommunication systems, information systems, pneumatic tube system, general patient care supplies, and transport equipment.
