BJC HealthCare’s Parkland Health Center in Missouri is seeking an RNFA to serve as a first assistant during surgical procedures, collaborating closely with surgeons to provide direct patient care.

Role involves pre-op assessments, intraoperative support, and post-op care planning within the perioperative team. RNFA credentials (CNOR/CERTIFIED RN FIRST ASSIST) preferred; nursing licensure required; on-call rotation may apply.

Qualifications

• RNFA—expanded perioperative role as first assistant to surgeons.
• Experience in perioperative patient care and nursing assessment.
• Comfort collaborating with surgical team and patient-designated support person.

Responsibilities

• Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon as part of a team.
• Pre-operatively performs focused nursing assessment related to planned procedure.
• Analyzes data to determine nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes.
• Participates in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care within the perioperative continuum.
• Monitors patient response and adjusts plan of care as needed.
• Administers medications according to standard nursing practice.
• Develops and manages individual care plans for RNFA interventions.
• Implements and coordinates perioperative plan of care.
• Evaluates progress toward outcomes and nursing practice quality.
• Engages in professional development and lifelong learning.
• Contributes to the professional growth of peers and team members.
