Qualifications

• Current NYS registration as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certified upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• BS in Nursing; if absent, must be obtained within three years.
• CNOR required upon hire and must remain active.
• RNFA program with internship meeting AORN RN First Assistant standards; CNOR prior to 2009 is noted.
• RNFA coursework and internship meeting academic standards; program recognized by state/nursing bodies.
• Two years OR perioperative nursing experience preferred; RNFA experience preferred; three years diversified perioperative nursing experience required.
• CNOR must be current and active.

Responsibilities

• Functions as the first assistant to the operating surgeon during the operative procedure.
• Provides comprehensive nursing management of care during the peri-operative phase.
• Supports scrubbing and circulating roles as applicable and required.
