Job summary

Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Definitive Observation Unit (DOU) on a full-time basis. The unit is a 38-bed stepdown service caring for postoperative spine patients, high-acuity medical-surgical cases, and stroke/neurology patients, with nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:3 or 1:4.

Schedule includes 12-hour night shifts across a 72 hours per 2-week period, with weekends.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide individualized patient care in a stepdown/observation setting
• Monitor postoperative patients, including vital signs and clinical status
• Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to physicians and the care team
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support safe, effective care transitions
• Maintain clear, compassionate communication with patients and their families
• Promote an environment focused on restoring function, optimizing care, and honoring each patient’s dignity, autonomy, and individuality
