RN Clinical Training and Development Manager

The RN Clinical Training and Development Manager reports to the Director of Clinical Operations and leads the organization’s clinical education and clinical quality improvement efforts. This role is responsible for developing and delivering clinical education programs while driving clinical quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care outcomes.

Job Summary

Leads staff education, clinical onboarding and competency validation; provides strategic oversight of care coordination, evidence‑based practice implementation and outcome assessment; acts as a role model, coach and mentor to nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists community clinical leadership in identifying gaps between acquired and needed competencies.
  • Establishes criteria for all in‑service education programs, including curriculum development, course outlines, objectives, teaching methods, examinations and evaluation tools.
  • Works with clinical leadership and staff to set competency‑related goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time‑sensitive (SMART).
  • Assesses clinical learning needs and discusses expected learning outcomes based on identified core competencies.
  • Identifies learning opportunities and assignments within the practice setting that align with staff development needs.
  • Plans, organizes and implements in‑person education and training programs.
  • Provides ongoing constructive feedback—coaching, encouragement and support—to promote skills acquisition and professional growth.
  • Validates annual completion of competency training through Relias™.
  • Monitors clinical performance metrics and uses data to inform training and process improvements.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support care coordination and continuity across all Ingleside communities.
  • Maintains awareness of legislative and regulatory changes affecting nursing practice and resident care.
  • Serves as a coach, mentor and role model to nursing staff.
  • Develops and implements a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program and a CNA preceptor program.
  • Designs, implements and tracks clinical onboarding programs for all clinical job groups.
  • Structures new‑hire nursing orientation to meet clinical standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Validates clinical competencies for new and existing staff.
  • Provides additional education and training based on survey results, individual performance, QAPI trends and input from community leaders.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with an active license to practice in DC, VA and MD; ability to obtain licensure in required jurisdictions within 30 days.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred; alternatively, at least ten years of leadership experience in a skilled nursing organization.
  • Minimum of three years as a clinical trainer or educator, or in a role providing clinical oversight to frontline staff within long‑term care.
  • Positive, motivating attitude with the ability to influence others constructively.
  • Strong critical listening skills and ability to assess competencies of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, GNAs and other clinical staff while offering respectful, supportive feedback.
  • Composure and solution‑focused thinking in stressful situations.
  • Proficient with electronic medical records, including Ingleside’s EMR and Relias internet‑based training.
  • CPR certified, willingness to become CPR/First Aid instructor.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in PCC and other clinical software applications.
