Job summary

The Allegheny General Cardiac ICU unit of Allegheny Health Network, part of Highmark Health, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide professional cardiac care in a high-acuity environment. The unit specializes in critical cardiac care for conditions such as cardiogenic shock, post-arrest care, STEMIs, and advanced heart failure, utilizing LVAD/Im peda support and transplant preparation.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or relevant experience as determined by the company.
• Current State of PA RN licensure OR current multi-state licensure through the eNLC.
• Preferred BSN and 3 years’ experience in clinical specialty; prior supervisory experience; certification in area of specialty.

• Directs and provides professional nursing care to patients through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Coordinates the daily clinical and operational components of the unit.
• Oversees and monitors quality and satisfaction measures for the facility and department.
• Acts as clinical expert and role model for staff.
• Monitors and mentors staff performance and follows up as needed.
• May perform supervisory duties.
• Demonstrates effective leadership and communication with staff and patients.
• Ensures appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix to meet productivity requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Unit provides high acuity medical treatment for optimization of the heart and sees a patient population including cardiogenic shock, post-cardiac arrests, STEMIs, advanced heart failure, and electrophysiology. Nurses are trained to provide complex cardiac care to patients with Swan-Ganz Catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella Devices, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), as well as pre heart transplant care. The unit is proud to hold its Advanced Heart Failure accreditation, LVAD accreditation, transplant accreditation, Pulmonary Hypertension certification, and Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification (C4).
