Allegheny General Hospital's 5A Telemetry Observation Unit is a specialized 38 bed unit focused on providing rapid assessment, treatment, and monitoring for patients with acute medical conditions. The unit primarily serves patients presenting with chest pain, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), trauma, and altered mental status. Patients awaiting IR procedures, and those no longer able to care for themselves at home, are also cared for on this unit. 5A operates as a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) or Observation Unit, providing a bridge between the Emergency Department and longer stay inpatient care.
