Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. seeks a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to perform concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient records, identifying opportunities to improve documentation quality and support accurate severity of illness and resource use.

You will educate physicians and staff on documentation and coding guidelines, collaborate with coders and CDI teams, and ensure codes reflect highest specificity. RN license and acute care CDI experience required.

Qualifications

• Active US RN license required.
• Front line CDI experience in an acute care hospital.
• 3–5 years clinical work experience in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry, or ED.
• Knowledge of EMR and CDI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician queries to obtain complete documentation for accurate coding and reflection of CMI, LOS, and resource use.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation requirements, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies.
• Applies coding clinic guidelines to assign DRGs with high specificity.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors, quality improvement teams, and other stakeholders to resolve documentation issues.
• Stays updated on clinical documentation standards, coding rules, and regulatory requirements.
• Conducts focused reviews in Mortality, PSI, and other CDI projects.
