Job summary

R1 RCM, Inc. is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient records, improving documentation quality and reimbursement accuracy.

You will collaborate with physicians and the CDI team to obtain clear documentation supporting severity of illness and resource use. Required RN license with acute care CDI experience, 3–5 years in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry, or ED, and familiarity with EMR/CDI platforms.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
• Active US RN license required.
• Front line CDI experience in an acute care hospital.
• Three to five years of recent clinical work in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry, or ED.
• Knowledge of EMR and CDI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain documentation for correct coding and compliance.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation requirements and reimbursement policies.
• Uses coding guidelines to assign DRGs with high specificity.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors, and quality teams to resolve documentation issues.
