Job summary

Nexcess is seeking a skilled RMA Specialist to support 24/7 data center operations, focusing on hardware lifecycle management, testing, diagnostics, and RMA processing. You will ensure reliable servers, storage, and network equipment while maintaining quality standards and inventory accuracy.

Responsibilities include diagnosing hardware issues, coordinating RMAs with vendors, performing firmware updates, and assisting with installation, racking, and data destruction per security policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience in IT, electronics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware architecture and diagnostic procedures.
  • Familiarity with RAID, BIOS/firmware updates, and common hardware troubleshooting tools.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Basic networking fundamentals (switching, cabling, IP configuration).
  • Experience coordinating RMAs with vendors or manufacturers.
  • Strong documentation, organization, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed testing and maintain quality assurance standards.
  • Proven reliability in a 24/7 operational environment.

  • Perform hardware setup, testing, and validation prior to deployment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose, document, and accelerate recurring or complex hardware failures.
  • Coordinate RMA requests, including vendor communication, part returns, and tracking replacements.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of hardware components, replacements, and RMA status.
  • Support the installation, racking, and cabling of servers, switches, and related infrastructure.
  • Execute data destruction procedures for reclaimed or decommissioned devices in accordance with security policies.
  • Assist in performing hardware audits and maintaining asset documentation in internal tracking systems.
  • Monitor alerts, tickets, and chat queues; provide timely response and elevate issues as needed.
  • Perform firmware and BIOS updates on servers and other hardware platforms.
  • Install and configure operating systems using standard images and base configurations.
  • Support planned maintenance and infrastructure upgrade projects under guidance from senior staff.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements and update technical documentation.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule as required (location dependent).
  • Provide courteous and effective communication with internal stakeholders and customers.

The RMA Specialist supports the 24/7 operations of our data centers with a focus on hardware lifecycle management, including setup, testing, diagnostics, repair coordination, and RMA processing. This role ensures that all physical infrastructure; servers, storage devices, and network equipment, operates reliably and meets quality standards.

Employment type: Permanent, Full-time

Pay Range: $20-24 /hr

What you'll do

What you bring
  • 3+ years of experience in data center operations, hardware support, or system build environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands‑on experience in IT, electronics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware architecture and diagnostic procedures.
  • Familiarity with RAID, BIOS/firmware updates, and common hardware troubleshooting tools.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
