Position Summary

The RLHO Graduate Assistant is essential personnel working under the supervision of Residence Life & Housing Operations (RLHO) full‑time staff to support students and student staff by providing a holistic, high‑quality residential living experience. The role requires recruiting, training, and mentoring student staff on community policies, operational procedures, crisis response, and professional development. The assistant reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations. As a 12‑month live‑in leadership member, the GA‑Housing Operations oversees maintenance, aesthetics, occupancy, and departmental operations during large‑scale events.

Essential Functions

• Recruit, train, and mentor Resident Assistants and Office Assistants.
• Handle residential move‑in, transfer, and move‑out processes.
• Advertise and promote residential culture.
• Participate in on‑call crisis response rotation.

GA‑Housing Operations also:

• Oversee reports on office visits, maintenance, key inventory, and routine unit inspections.
• Respond to emails in the departmental inbox and return calls concerning housing.
• Coordinate inventory of department supply closets and ensure organization.
• Assist with maintenance of departmental golf carts.
• Assist with preparing budget reconciliation for purchase cards.
• Assist with marketing the residential experience through tours and materials.
• Serve on weekday, weekend, and holiday on‑call rotation.
• Perform routine department processes, data entry, staff meetings, fire drills, safety inspections, software initiatives, and other office duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Creative Suite.

Required Education

Current UIW graduate student or enrolled in a UIW graduate program by start of employment.

Required Work Experience

No experience necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Residence Life or Housing experience.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Valid Texas driver’s license with ability to be insured through UIW’s vehicle insurance carrier.

Employment

• Part‑time, 20 hours per week.
• Some weekend and evening hours.

Physical Demands

• Drive a golf cart.
• Lift up to 15 lbs for table set‑up/tear‑down at events.
• Reach overhead, bend, and squat to retrieve event materials.
• Push/pull event carts holding up to 60 lbs.
• Actively engage in events for extended periods.
• Access all floors in the residence halls with or without elevators.
• Regularly move around campus and event venues to engage students and attend meetings.

Compensation

$5,000 stipend per semester, distributed in 10 installments.
