Job description

Position Summary

The RLHO Graduate Assistant is considered essential personnel and works under the supervision of the Residence Life & Housing Operations (RLHO) full‑time staff to support students and student staff by providing a holistic, high‑quality residential living experience. Expectations include the ability to recruit, train, and mentor student staff on community policies, operational procedures, crisis response, and professional development.

The GA-Residential Experience is primarily responsible for recognition efforts, departmental marketing and media, and assessing the residential experience as a 12‑month live‑in leadership member.

Essential Functions

Participate in (i) recruitment, training, and mentorship of Resident Assistants and Office Assistants; (ii) residential move‑in, room change, and move‑out processes; (iii) advertising and promoting residential culture; and (iv) on‑call crisis response rotation.

  • Review and assess resident engagement markets to include 1:1 RA to Resident conversations (Cardinal Connects), daily duty report reviews, and resident engagement data.
  • Develop and manage department marketing to include official housing marketing, social media (TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook) and large‑scale programming advertisements.
  • Assist with department recognition and growth programs such as Of-the-Month awards, Cardinal Resident Council, and planning the annual Recognition Week.
  • Document the residential experience by capturing photos and videos at various events and experiences.
  • Serve on a weekday/weekend/holiday on‑call rotation.
  • Other duties including, but not limited to: routine department processes, data entry & review into employee databases, weekly staff meetings, fire drills and safety inspections, department software initiatives & committees, and office duties as assigned.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently of direct supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education

Current UIW graduate student or enrolled in a UIW graduate program by start of employment.

Required Work Experience

No experience necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Residence Life or Housing experience.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Valid Texas driver’s license with the ability to be insured through UIW’s vehicle insurance carrier.

Work Hours

Part‑time, 20 hours a week.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs for table set‑up/tear‑down at events.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat to retrieve event materials.
  • Ability to push/pull event carts holding up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to access all floors in the residence halls with or without elevators.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage potential and current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
Salary

Salary: $5k stipend per semester distributed in 10 installments each semester.

Reports To

Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing Operations.
